Located just 20 miles from our campground, is the Thornton Gap entrance to the Shenandoah National Park which extends along the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Skyline Drive runs its length, and a vast network of trails includes a section of the long-distance Appalachian Trail.

Old Rag Mountain Trailhead
Located just 9.5 miles from our campground, this 9.4-mile loop trail is near Etlan, Virginia. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 5hrs to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
Hazel River Trailhead
Located just 11 miles from our campground, this 12.8-mile out-and-back trail is near Sperryville, Virginia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 6hrs to complete. This trail is great but it's unlikely you'll encounter other people while exploring.
Rose River Fire Trailhead
Located just 10 miles from our campground, this 3.8-mile loop trail is near Syria, Virginia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2hrs to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
Cedar Run Trailhead
Located just 11 miles from our campground, this 5.8-mile out-and-back trail is near Syria, Virginia. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 4hrs to complete.It is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
Hughes River
Located just 6 miles from our campground, and called “one of the finest brook-trout rivers in the Shenandoah National Park” by FlyFisherman.com, the Hughes River flows southeast from Stony Man Mountain to join the Hazel River in Culpeper County.
Hawksbill Summit Hike
Hawksbill Mountain is a fairly easy 2.9 mile hike with an elevation of 4,050 feet. Marking the border between Madison County and Page County in Virginia, the summit of Hawksbill Mountain is the highest point in Shenandoah National Park and offers beautiful sunrises.
